Unable to burn DVDs

Recently my PC stopped burning DVDs. I thought my drive died so I bought a new one. Problem is the new one doesn't burn either so I'm assuming something happened to my O/S. Currently I am running Windows XP 64 bit. The two drives I have are a Sony and a LiteOn. Both drives are +/-R. I have tried Memorex +RW DVDs and maxell -RW DVDs. I have tried using Nero 9.0, Ashampoo, and a few other burning programs. Typically when I try to burn something, it goes through all the motions, but when it attemps to close the session, I get an error. and the disk becomes unreadable. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.

same happend to my very very old cd writer. but since you8r new one doesnt work id say go to the manufacturer websight and see if there is a diagnostics web sight,
or can you play games from a dvd. if you can that means you can read just not write.
try dvd decripter.. easy burning app
