Vista won\'t boot after virus, can\'t get into safemode, what to do?

I upgraded from windowa xp to Vista. Everything was ok until I logged on to the internet. When I moved my mouse it logged me off and the background screen showed up with no start page. Tried to restart but the same thing happened. Did diagnostics but it can't seem to find the drive. Was able to reach the x drive which has all of the Vista backup, but can't restore. Tried to reboot with the upgrade cd but it won't acknowledge and goes back to the backgrould screen again with no start page. Also, tried to downgrade using xp but the same thing happens. There doesn't seem to be any C drive so if I can't restore maybe I can reformat and reinstall again. Help!!!!!!!!

Make sure that u don't have any key pressed and stuck, check them.

What happens when u try to get in to the safe mode? Keep pressing F8 while PC start.

I get safe mode only with the safe mode words in the corners without any screen

hold down the F10 and control key while ur restarting and that should fix it
