I would suspect the cable or magnetic interference. If there are signal losses or shielding problems I think you would get those symptoms. Can you test with a short high quality cable? If it works properly, then it is the cable. I am doing searches on Wireless Media players and there is a lot of netgear and d-link.. not sure if those are any good or not.
50' S video is well within the specs. Should not be the problem itself unless poor cable quality. 150' is ok usually. Is the DVD output set on interlaced? S video is only interlaced not progressive scan.
