I am trying to play DVD's from my PC to my TV.
The picture is not very good, the color is off and there are lines on it.

I did have to run a rather long S-video cable. it is 50ft.

Do you think I have a cable problem or a video card problem?

Anyone else run long cables like this?

I would suspect the cable or magnetic interference. If there are signal losses or shielding problems I think you would get those symptoms. Can you test with a short high quality cable? If it works properly, then it is the cable. If you need cables, go to www.cablesforless.com I have bought from them before and been very satisfied with service and quality. https://www.cablesforless.com/index [...] tegory=814

---good luck---

It could be your problem, I've seen cabling cause similar noise issues on somewhat shorter cables that weren't very well shielded.

I don't know why I did not think of that.
I just need to move the PC next to the TV and use a short S-video cable.

50ft? Yeah thats definitely your problem. I would either look into better cabling, or other solutions such as a media extender.

I am thinking the same thing also..
I am doing searches on Wireless Media players and there is a lot of netgear and d-link.. not sure if those are any good or not.

I own a rather high end video camera.
I plugged this into my 50 ft S video cable and the picture was perfect.

So I still think this is a video card problem.

50' S video is well within the specs. Should not be the problem itself unless poor cable quality. 150' is ok usually. Is the DVD output set on interlaced? S video is only interlaced not progressive scan.
