Cannot see users, application or process names in task manager

I can not see application names, process names or user names in Task Manger. When I change the "select column" and make changes, a list appears for a fraction of a second and disappears. I can see that process are running on performance and networking tabs, but no listings on the other tabs. I've spent hours searching the internet and there are no answers that address this situation. Others have posted the same situation with no reply. Any suggestions? Can Task Manager be "reset" to the install values? Please help. Thanks in advance, Ryan
