I'm new to laptops, and my laptop arrived yesterday with no OS and no drivers installed. It has a 512mb 8600M GT and the driver on the driver disc is 156.xx
I saw a website with NBF MobilForce drivers, version 169.09, are these modded drivers and not official drivers from Nvidia?
I saw on the Nvidia website that the current driver for Vista 32 bit is 169.25, but none were on the section for the mobile 8 series. Can I use the 169.25 for my 8600M GT, will there be issues?
I'm new to laptop graphics and wasn't sure if I should download modded drivers.
You cannot use the 169.25 desktop drivers for your laptop.
You either need moded mobile drivers or the official ones. Best place to start is your laptop OEM's driver page. Using the moded runs the risk of greater instability, but often can offer better performance and bug fixes, the decision of which is more important is yours.
