Wife said she wants her own PC. And I said, well how much do you want to spend? She replied $300.00 (not including windowsXP, monitor etc. etc.)... Can you do that? she asked. Sure I can. So this is what I came up with. I will be upgrading the GPU in my computer soon so I will use the old one for hers (8800gts).

CPU:

MOBO:

MEMORY:

HDD:

PSU:

OPTICAL DRIVE:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827135147

CASE:

The size of the hard drive will not be a big deal (connecting to a network with over a TB of space). Tell me what you all think, any advice or critique would be much appreciated.

Looks fine, but I'd go with Antec Earthwatts 3x0W.

Looks good. I would probably get the E2200 and spend the saved money on another GB of RAM. Id also look at an FSP or Antec EW PSU. A SATA DVD drive would also be better.

Also, if there's no OCing, seeing as your on a budget, check out AMD chips and boards, I'm thinking you could have an X2, AM2 mobo and 2 gb of memory for 200 bucks from newegg, of course add case and what not, but look at that as well...

Yours comes to ~$341.50 before shipping. I would propose the following which comes to $303.93 after rebates and before shipping. Will be faster at stock speed, and is upgradeable to Phenom later if desired. It also doubles the hard disk, adds 1gb ram, and a DVD burner. Power supply has 30 amps on the 12v rail which is plenty to run that card. Also much better quality than low end Coolermaster.

I second tlmck's AMD build which is the best bang for a stock pc.
