I recently did an upgrade on my system with the following items.

E6750
MSI NEo2-FR
2G Ballistix PC6400
320G Sata II Drive
XP90 Thermalright Cooler
AC5 Thermal Paste

My question is the temps using Coretemp, I also am using Speedfan 4.37 Beta 38
Ambient temps in the case stay around 38C
Idle temps are around 31C
Prime 95 Temps max out around 61C, but as soon as I kill the Prime 95 the temps instantly drop to about 48C and continue to go down from there.
These temps seem a high to me, but would like to here some other comments.

Thanks Nick

when u say intsantly drops, how instantly are we talking. like instantly instantly, or like 10 seconds instantly?

If your ambient temp 38C (is around 100F) is correct, that's aweful warm for a PC system. So I wouldn't expect to get cool temps at all. So something is wrong, in what your stating.

And yes my E4400 temps drop within a sec when a load is put off.

Did a quick test.. folding @ home:

Ambient temps in front of my case - 27C (80-81F)
Folding@home - 57C per core - Tcase 45C
Load off in 1 sec 43C/44C
About 30 secs later 39/40C - Tcase 31C

What Case? What fans are fitted? Case temp is high. Try removing side of case and see if temp drops. Check cables are not obstructing airflow. Ideal is for air to enter at bottom front and exit top rear, PSU + extra rear fan blowing out, if required.

The ambient temp is from Speedfan.

Raidmax Case
Antec Neopower 500W
2 80MM Front Fans drawing air in
2 80MM Rear Fans Drawing Air Out
1 80MM Side Fan Blowing In
Cables are all tucked in neatly.
Yeah I know it's loud, planning on a new case soon.
The XP90 is from my previous PC that had and AMD 64 3000 overclocked to 3.2mhz and it never got over 50C under load.

Dude, I would suggest you reseat with arctic silver 5 and also try to get one of those coolermaster RC690's. They can be had for around 40 bucks and have more airflow than most 200 dollar cases. 80mm fans suck and those were certainly an issue I had with earlier builds. Another thing that is relevant is the stepping of that 6750....is it a G0? If it is, then you have high temps for sure!

Well, first off, with speed fan, you need to figure out what the readings are (since speedfan doesn't exactly label your sensors, hence temp1 temp2 ect)... it sounds like your assuming what the temps are basically.

That 38C sounds more like your chipset temp, not ambient temp. My chipset is currently 41C.

Basically to get an ambient temp, you either have a sensor that is in the inside of the case with thermal-couple or you use some kind of hand held IR thermometer to get a reading of ambient temp.

And comparing the 3000+ temps really don't mean much, since they are not getting the temp readings as a standard. Basically your E6750 has 3 sensors, not sure how the 3000+ registers its temp, since its a single core.

Try reading more on the temp Guide found:

Thanks for all the replies, I'll pickup a new case this weekend and check the heatsink again and go from there.
