For whatever reason my employer purchased approximately 200 Planar PL1700 LCDs. Approximately 1/3 of the units had a visual defect right out of the box. These units would have a vertical striped region where anything appearing in the affected area would appear slightly blurred. Many units had multiple striped regions. At no point has returning the units been mentioned/considered.

All of that's fine because our users really don't notice it... BUT... I do have another problem. A large percentage of these same screens have developed an extremely bright patch... it's generally in the lower right hand corner, but occasionally in the lower left. This area of the screen still displays correctly, but what is displayed is INCREDIBLY bright. Has anyone ever seen this type of problem with an LCD before and does anyone know what it is exactly? Visualize an area of your screen 1/3 inch X 1/3 inch in one of the lower corners being SUPER bright... and that's what I'm trying to describe.

Just curious if anyone knows what it is that I'm seeing... and just throwing this out there in case anyone is considering (god I hope not) a Planar PL1700 LCD.
