I'm going to be running it off of the e8400, and am curious which board is the best overall as I've read a lot of mixed reviews on them and would like to hear from somebody first hand their thoughts, and or criticisms. My choices are the P5E, either of the Striker series (Extreme or Striker 2), or the Maximus Forumla. I'll be running a G92 8800 GTS, 2 250gb 7500rmp hd, and 1 150gb 10000rmp for the os, X-fi sound card, vista ultimate 64, and 4gb corsair xms2 ram. Any help?
I don't think any of us users can tell you which is "best overall" mainboard for any CPU really. Maybe very few can. We don't have access to many boards to test them. You read reviews from here and there and decide. I bought the P5E for my E8400 with 1200Mhz 2X1GB Transcend RAM kit and had absolutely no problem. It works great. But i can't say it's the best... it's the only one I seen my CPU work with. But I am sure the others will be as good if not better than the P5E... they come with a higher price tag and have more "crap" (sorry but they are really useless for me) included in the box. Whatever your choice you will be extremely happy (as long as no faulty hardware knocks your door ofcourse). As far as the rest goes, I do not own any so can't say. I am leaving the graphics card buy for late March so I can pick up a 9800 (sticking with my old 7800GT for the time being). Have a look at the Seagate 500 GB (7200RPM - 32MB, Sata2) ST3500320AS... I am extremely happy with this buy as well. Good luck
