What do people think of it?

My Lightning/Energy Blaster picked VS up for his level 26 power last night
and it's been a mixed good thing/bad thing.

It doesn't seem that useful in teams. Mobs go down pretty fast with a good
team and if I'm in a bad team, it isn't enough to turn the tide.

In solo play, I have sometimes found it useful to have the little guy
watching my back. I blasted a Raider Engineer most the way down, Caged him
and turned to deal with his Wing Raider buddies. I opted for a fighting
retreat. When I finished with the Wing Raiders, the VS has taken care of
the Engineer who would have been shooting me.

I found it somewhat useful against the Sky Raiders. If there's a force
field generator left after I take down a mob, I can pop off a VS and go to
the bathroom, letting the VS weaken or destroy the generator while my
character heals and gets end back.

I can set it up ahead of me and look for hidden bad guys. 'Course the VS
aggros them...

I was disappointed that the VS seems to ignore temporary powerup effects
like Build Up. I can't tell the difference between a VS popped off while
under the effects of Build Up and one that wasn't.

I'll let it hang around for a while yet, I am also wondering if I done' have
better uses for a power slot too. I still have my Issue 4 respec available.

Eh. Flashy (har har), minor effectiveness. Might be better if slotted up.
Doesn't seem to draw aggro (to itself or away from user).

Unless someone can point out kewlness I've missed, I'm likely to spec it
out in a few levels.

I've always found, that especially in solo, anything that gives me an
adavantage is a good thing.

I picked up EM Pulse on my rad/rad at 32, and reading the description
it doesn't seem like much.

Until the first time I turned a corner and found an Orange CoT Mage,
Orange CoT Demon, and two Yellow CoT Defenders. Hit EM Pulse out of
sheer panic and then ran around the corner. Took one hit from the demon
(which wasn't a lot) and no one followed me. I was able to down them
before the last defender came out of the hold.

So, anything that can be used as a tactical or suprise advantage
(especially while solo'ng) is a nice thing.

Even a pet can save your but.

Yeah? And? What, you were worried?

(Yeah, I have squishies, too. But I've been playing my big guy for a couple
of weeks, street hunting in PI, and I'd forgotten what it's like to be able
to grin and chuckle at purple mobs. If it ain't +4, it ain't worth my time.
:)

It wasn't that I was worried....but I hate running into two Oranges at
the same time.

Even with my scrapper.

It's just not my playstyle to be 'in-face' of bad guys.

Really. I hardly ever see oranges in PI; I'll stop and beat a mob of reds
if I'm resting or killing time, but only a mob of purples is really worth
firing up the toggles and diving in. Even with Glory, I prefer a purple
lieutenant and a few red minions to any lesser mix.

But then, I started as a tank by choice; my play style IS in-their-face.
It's been hard to learn to play squishies without falling into tank mode...
which for non tanks means "crushed under the tank's treads."

I only tested it for 10-15 minutes on Training Room. Didn't seem all
that useful to me, but then my character was an Emp Defender who isn't
really going to be attacking much at the best of times.

It's only a "pet" by the loosest possible definition, kind of like a
Fire Tanker's Burn patch. Can't be damage-buffed, doesn't draw aggro
away from you...it's more like a DoT power with an external focus than
a true "pet".

But if it's useful to you, as you seem to describe in your post, then
it's a good power and should be kept.

It's often seemed to me that people most strongly connect with one character
type.

I have a freind who loves scrappers. She has a Electric/Energy blaster just
like my main, but we couldn't play them more different. She's in there
happily laying into bad guys with Power Thrust and Bone Smasher and tossing
lightining at point-blank range, contantly on the move. She naturally
collects a lot of bruises. My dard/dark defender (Nightfall) is normally
teamed with her. Keeping close enough to her to both do a heal and track a
bad guy to draw the heal from gets downright annoying. I turn my attention
to the bad guy for just a second and she runs off somewhere.

She just thinks like a scrapper.

My main, if I have a lightning power available, I'll use it and keep my
fragile little hide out of the melee. I've taken to creating a Voltaic
Servant in the middle of the melee. Power Thrust and Bone-Smasher are
reserves I keep on hand for when a bad guy gets up close and personal with
me. When I run low on lightning, I will sometimes dance in and Bone-Smash,
but I dance back out again as a blaster should. Even playing a tanker or
scrapper, I get nervous when my hit points start getting low. The blaster's
natural tendency to pull back, rest, return wants to take hold

I think like a blaster.

It is.

I'm getting used to having it around. The character hit 27th level last
night and I can reinforced it with both of 27's enhancement slots and
slotted it with 3 nifty new damage SOs. 'Course 27 was the level I
converted all my lightning powers to damage SOs (kept an accuracy DO for
Charged Bolts and Lightning, all-damage SOs for Zapp. I didn't have the
cash to do more than that). It was sad to see all that money invested in
DOs just disappear, but whatcha gonna do short of a respec?

Level 28 is when I update the 6 recharge SOs each I have in Conserve Power
and Haste. I've been pretty happy with the way that's turned out. Conserve
Power keeps my end burn down and the 6 recharge SOs each in CP and Haste
keep CP coming back enough to feed my character's end needs, with a helping
hand from the occasional inspiration. I felt confident enough to replace
the end reduction DO in each of my lightning powers with a damage SO. Doing
all this buying and slotting was the last thing I did last night, so it
should be interesting to see how the character plays.
