i own gigabyte odin gt 550 watt psu. it comes with a software where i can monitor and modify the voltage as i needed. my system spec currently are:

Core 2 Duo 6300 1.86Ghz
Twin 2X 2048-6400C4DHX DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 (2GB)
1 LiteOn Combo drives
1 DVD/CD writer (samsung writemaster)
1 180G Hitachi Hard disk
Asus 8800GTS 512MB
2 USB devices (mouse&keyboard, wireless usb)
Abit AB9 PRO motherboard.

using this system, the software shows an average of 100 watt, and 230Watt (Highest) when i play crysis on 1440x900 res with all high setting on. after reading some post on the graphic section, most of them said the requirement power for 8800GTS would be enourmous and may reach 300+ watt. i was surprise to see the software voltage/watt monitor where the value is far lower than i expected. i expect that my system may actually consume 250 watt at min... so im wondering if the software is bugged or not since i didnt do any OCing yet and planning to do it soon. if any1 in this forum can convince to me that the software actually not bugged and correct about the voltage value used,i would gladly appreciate it, because i want to try OCing my 8800GTS.

I'd say it would be a good approximate.

I use a P3-kilo-watt meter and get lower results from what I've read, including that PSU extreme calculator.

And I use 8800GTS 320MB EVGA KO. Still not happy that it chows down on watts for just regular 2d graphics. I did switch out my PSU, and noticed a difference, but its a different difference since I put the meter to figure out the total consumption off 2 UPS's. Just too lazy to move things around to see the difference on my Corsair 620W.

But on my dads system, I did remember it used 107/109watts at idle, and around 160/170watts load, and that system uses a 7600GT, which has lighter power consumption.

i want to ask 1 more question since u said that you overclocked your E4400. what was your idle watt b4 you overclock your E4400? because im still using non-OC equip, i want to compare your b4 overclock idle wattage with mine

Okay... I shut down just to do some quick tests..

I was off by 10watts.

Idle - 160watts
Folding on both cores - 199watts
Cyrsis - 238watts (1280x1024 medium, no anti, turned on anti-x16, no change in power consumption)

Should note that with the other PSU on folding, it was 210watts on the ZERODBA 620W PSU.

I don't remember off my other PSU, but just set my CPU speeds to default.

Idle @ 1.2ghz (2ghz stock/speedstep enabled) - 158/159watts

Now I gotta put my system back the way it was.... :pt1cable:

Edit:

Okay system back to normal, should note the 2 watt difference from actually 1.2ghz from 1.8ghz. At idle speedstep does its thing. :D

Ditto.. I think the main reason for the higher wattage that is recommended, is more based on a fully loaded system, meaning more HD's / SLI-Crossfire / other cards (sound/tv/network) / water pump / ect.

:) The watt value under load is almost the same altho ur using 1280x1024, while i turn on anti-x16, using high setting and resolution at 1440x900 playing crysis. still my peak watt is in range 200~230 watt
