Ok this might be a strange question. But lets say i buy a motherboard and processor and the motherboard will only support the cpu after you update the bios.

Now can i update the bios with that said cpu in it that the motherboard wont support till you update the bios?

Depends, certain motherboards might just say that the processor is unknown, sometimes it won't even boot.

It depends on the motherboard and the CPU in question. For example the P35-DS3L works with an E8400 even without the BIOS update.

I contacted ASUS and asked them if the Q9550 would be supported on the ASUS maximus, they told me it hadnt been tested yet and that it will probably require a bios update. So i guess ill wait on choosing a motherboard till im sure.
