In the BIOS, having SMART enabled uses some CPU resources.

Q: What % of CPU resources is used by SMART?

Is it so low that it would not impact when gaming?

Is it realy worth having it active monitoring?

Finally, if the HD does become faulty/out side specs, does the BIOS warn you with a alarm, pop up or both.

Thanks,

SMART feature may affect performance. Maybe negligible but still it can. Bios wont warn you if anything happens in your HDD. Please use third party software like HDDlife. It can help, plus I suggest buy an HDD cooler to cool down your HDD temp, this will help you prolong the life of your HDD plus added stability.

Why have an option in the BIOS if it does nothing? Every board that I had would put up a SMART diagnostic message at bootup if there was a problem with the drive. Some RAID controllers do not pass along the SMART info from the drive but otherwise you should get a warning at boot time if there are any problems.

Agreed.
