The new setup posts fine, and I can get into the bios no problem. They keyboard is responsive in the bios, and everything seems to be ok.
When i go beyond the post and try to boot (off CD, hard drive, doesnt matter what device) the keyboard becomes unresponsive and the system locks. For example, when booting off an XP install disk, i get the "press any key to boot from cd....." I can watch the 5 dots go across, but cant press a key to continue the boot off CD. Ive tried 2 keyboards (both USB)
When booting off the hard drive (nothing on it, was a raid setup on a different controller) I get sytem disk error, press ctrl alt del to restart, but the system is locked up again.
I have tried with only 1 stick of ram (both sticks one at a time) and only 1 hard drive plugged in (to make sure it wasnt a power issue).
The other strange thing, when i get to the boot from CD, there is still the remainder of the bios post listing pci devices, irqs, etc on the screen. When the system locks, a few of the letters and numbers that are printed on the screen dissapear. It is only 3 or 4, and always the same letters and numbers dissapearing.
I tried with nothing else plugged into the usb, same thing. I just found a copy of memtest, I'll let it go overnight and see what I find in the morning.
Try using a PS/2 keyboard, Have you tried another USB Port or did you use the same port each time, Also Check your CPU is fixed properly. You said that it could get into BIOS and it works fine? That is strange. Is everything correct in bios when you where in there? Maybe try to reset CMOS...
I think XP does not load the USB drivers till later, so the keyboard does not work. I find that for a fresh install of XP a PS2 keyboard is needed (Though once installed there is no problem)

Wow... I cant believe I missed that one with the amount of time I spent in the bios. USB keyboard support is disabled by default on this board for anyone with similar issues, enable it and all is good.
