Ok, the OEM processor is JUST the processor (no Heatsink/Fan). The retail has the CPU, and a heatsink+fan.

(if getting the OEM I reccomend the ZEROTherm Nirvana cooler)

Splendid
I have a Pentium D and it's the hottest thing known to man! I would recomend trying to stretch a bit further to a core2, I can't wait to get rid of my Pentium D!

What will you be using the system for?

id be using the system for MMORPGs, other CD intalation games and just random desktop stuff. But nothing too extreme

How much would a core 2 cost.Would it be better

What are the parts that you need to complete your build? Are you transferring anything over to the new build or is the a total rebuild?

The extra cache only offers a 2-5% improvement in performance. It's not worth the extra money when on a tight budget.

E2160+Blood Iron+2GB Transcend DDR2-800.

Done and Done.

As was said, STAY WAY FROM PENTIUM D. It is based on the old Pentium 4 architecture and Core2 beats it hands down. The E21x0 line (even though it says Pentium Dual Core) is based on the Allendale Core. The Allendale core uses Core2 Logic with 2 MB of L2 Cache. Core2 Normally has 4 MB L2 Cache. Short story? It's a Core2 with 2 MB of Cache to start and the E21x0 line has 1 MB of that cache disabled.

sorry to bug you but why is the pentium d a 3ghz duel core but cheaper than E2180 when it is a 2.0 GHz

Also, i read that everyone who gets the E2XXX OC it. If i was to do that would it still count as duel core
ie " I oc'd mine from 2GHz to 2.4GHz" Does that mean its running at 4.8GHz or 4.4GHz?

Because the myth of "More GHz = Faster Performance" is finally dead. The Pentium D may be spinning its wheels faster via the Clock, but the Core 2 performs faster, gets things done faster without ramping the clock speed to a big number to trick you into purchasing it.

Disclaimer: I havent looked at benchmarks for an E21XX but my Core2 crushes my old Pentium even though I "lost" about 400MHz in clockspeed.

The E2140 appears to be 15-35% faster in benchmarks than the 3Ghz pentium Ds. Go to Toms CPU benchmarks from the homepage. Clock speed is not the whole story. The E21xx are all faster at stock speeds the the fastest Pentium D plus cooler and, I believe, lower power consumption.

It doesn't scale like that. Each core is running at 2 GHz or 2.4 GHz. It's not 2x2.4 GHz.

As was said, the Pentium D is not nearly as capable as the Pentium Dual Core (Core2). Core2 is so far above and beyond the Pentium 4 Architecture... it's not even comparable.

Do you self a favour, if your going for a 945 mobo, dont choose the fox conn... foxconn make dell components

go for asus

if you could, go for a p35 motherboard as the chipset is newer and better
