I've been trying to install the proper monitor drivers for my P225fb for a couple days and have hit a wall. I have downloaded the latest drivers for Vista 32, both Signed and Un-Signed and installed them. They both create a C:\Viewsonic folder. The signed drivers, upon trying a manual install, only have V-Series monitors listed even thought the Viewsonic site clearly states they are for all CRT and LCD monitors. I delete the folder and run the un-signed driver install. The manual install finds the driver listed but fails and says the file isn't right. Upon looking I see no P225 INF file, just an ICM file. Am I crazy or is Viewsonic?

Appreciate ANY help..

I have never had a monitor that needed drivers installed.

I have had many monitors, some of which came with drivers. I have never seen any difference using the supplied driver at all. Not in features or in any benchmarks of any kind. Waste of time and space as far as I can see. I called Dell tech support once and asked just what the driver would do that came with my 30" monitor and they were at a loss to give a single reason to install it.

The only reason I ever installed software for a monitor is for my Microtek 997M and the software was just so I can rotate the screen. After that, I never seen any good reason to install drivers for a monitor.

I had a P225F monitor back in the day, but ended up having 3 duds unfortunately. Anyway there is good reason to have the proper INF file installed for a monitor. Which is that the Plug and Play monitor doesn't always allow or detect the proper capabilities of the monitor you have attached to your computer. What this means is that without the proper monitor installed in the OS, the computer may not give you the option of setting your display to it's optimal settings / highest resolution and refresh rates. And it may also display non support resolutions for your monitor making it more difficult to select between different resolutions as some may end up giving you a distorted display or no display at all. So yes, there are very good reasons to have the proper INF installed for your monitor, especially if you frequently switch between different resolutions / refresh rates. Though please note, a driver for your monitor is not going to enhance or reduce it's functionality other than allowing you to only select it's proper resolutions / refreshrates.
