Hello guys,

Could you please give me some advice here? I have searched a lot but couldn't find basic answers to my simple questions.

Thank you in advance.

So, I wanted to install a second monitor to my current setup;

nvidia geforce 8600gt 512mb
samsung 226bw

samsung 226cw (new monitor)

Apparently I cannot connect the new monitor to my current card(dvi/hdmi) as both monitors come with dvi/rgb connections.

So, I take it, I will have to be buying another card.

Now, I do not use really intensive applications (total war, would be the most resourcefull I guess) and I was hoping a card like the 8400gs or 8500gt would suit my purpose for the 2nd monitor, as I dont want to spend too much on the new card.
My question is, will there be any conflicts if I use a 512mb along with a 256mb one?
Will I be able, for example, play total war on the one monitor connected to the 512mb card while at the same time use the 2nd monitor/256mb card for internet explorer or other programs? What happens if I have one application spread on both monitors?

I hope you understand what I am saying.

Any other suggestions(including different graphics cards), much appreciated.

Thank you

I can't see a reason why you can't connect both monitors to your single card. What brand of card do you have? Do you have a link?

I've got dual monitors (one DVI, one VGA connected to a VGA/DVI adapter) connected to my EVGA 8800GTS 512MB card, and it works fine.

Just buy a DVI-to-HDMI adapter cable:

I got two DVI's connected to mine. Is one of your vid outs a VGA on the back? Then get a VGA to DVI adaptor or go DVI to HDMI adaptor like mentioned above.

Thanks guys.

Didn't know a dvi-hdmi cable exists, this helps a lot I think.

Don't know the brand of the card, it came installed on my fairly new hp m8180.uk if that helps, and has 1 hdmi and 1 dvi outs.

I am currently in Greece for another year or so, therefore my options are limited and the only cable I can purchase online at the moment is:

A bit pricey it seems but I should go fo it right?

cheers
