Hard Drive performance ...

Just putting out some feelers here but the question goes like this, how is the performance of a hard drive affected once the hard drive's capacity exceeds 50%? I saw in a post dated Aug 04 about it, some said it was bunk and others said that there may be something to it. I feel from my observations is "seems" to be true. As in why is a new install of an OS so much better than one that is a few years old, i.e. HDD is filled up with stuff.

More about hard drive performance
  1. A new install is faster because NOTHING else is running in the background. No junk DLL files taking up space, no 3rd party drivers for your mouse, keyboard, etc...no antivirus or other crap running.
