Hi i'm getting this week a intel e8500 with an asus p5q.

The cooling is good, 6 scythe fans and sunbeam core contact.

My gpu is a nvidia 8600gt but i'll upgrade it soon to ati hd 4870.

OS is windows xp 32 bit.

I'd like to OC my e8500 to something like 3.6 ghz or a little more.

However, RAM is my only worry.

I know nothing about overclocking, but i know that ram may play an important role for it.

Actually, I have 2gb of crucial ballistix pc6400 at 800mhz.

Should i wait to get better quality ram or is this good enough (and secure enough) for a mild overclocking?

Ballistix is great overclocking ram, assuming you have the slightly older sets that use Micron D9GMH/D9GKX chips. Even the newer Ballistix should be good for getting to 4.0GHz+ just fine. If you do have the older Ballistix you should be able to get the memory to 1066MHz without issue and many people have taken it to the 1200MHz range.

To get an E8500 to 3.76GHz you only need DDR2-800 running at standard speed.

before you start overclock disable features such as EIST,SpeedStep,C1E State and lower memory multiplier to 1:1 and set the vcore to VID value then you start overclock.

and your ram will be fine.
