Mobo: MSI 975X V.2 Platinum power up Bios 7.7
CPU: Intel Celeron D @3.33GHZ (working) / intel q6600 (will not work)
CPU Cooling: Zalman CNPS9500 LED
Ram: 4x1GB Kingston kvr533d2n41g pc4200
PSU: Antec true power trio 650 watt (8 pin cpu power connector)
GPU: Saphire (ati) 2900 pro 512 gb
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster 5.1
HDD: WDC 160 gig / maxtor 250 gig (backups) no-raid
CD: Sony 52x r+rw
DVD: Samsung DVD rom

PC boots up and runs fine with the celeron and everything else installed. When I put the q6600 in, it does not boot (the fans come on but no post) and my mobo led's tell me it is Memory Detection Test. Testing onboard memory size. The D-LED will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly. This is where it stops.
I've tried Moving one stick @ a time from slot to slot, different ram (1 g pc5300), Removing/swapping video cards. I unhooked everything form the board except the bare essentials,(CPU, ram, video, PSU) and still no post
I had a computer tech try to boot the q6600 with a pci diagnostic card with no luck (again the celeron booted to the test card fine and passed all diagnostic tests) I RMA'd a q6600 back to newegg for a replacement, got the new one with the same result. I tried upping the voltage to the dimms no difference.

Again, the computer runs fine with the celeron, even ran CPU stab test with no crashes.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice; I am at my wits end with this.

Well, you have the latest bios, try clearing the cmos, take the battery out of the board and leave the rig unplugged for around 5 minutes just to be safe, pop the batter back in, and boot. Do this with the q6600 in, don't boot again with the celeron D, hopefully this will fix the problem.

He has the platinum power up edition. Here is the cpu support list for it.

I already checked it before my first post. Supported since Bios 7.6

That is if he is sure he has the power up edition, if he has the normal one, it won't support it =P.

Hopefully though, a cmos reset will fix his problem if he does have a platinum power up model, cause he's done everything right, cept for the cmos reset.

Kinda wonder if that Q6600 is being picky on the memory. Too bad he doesn't have another brand of DDR2 to run, even if its DDR2 667/800.

Guess we have ta wait till he gets back on this.

Heh... the other MB I thought he had, the bios version is 1.4. It doesn't seem to hardly support hardly anything... not even the PD 805 2.66. :heink:

You mean PC5400? PC5300 is laptop (200pin).

Dang... I guess it would be time to call MSI or email them. Maybe they'll give ya a better replacement MB? :D

Edit:

Only other guess I have.. the PSU might not be able to supply enough juice?

Can a system run without the Video card plugged in with the 8pin? (just to get the low power error in windows?)
