What's the difference between the 3870x2 card against 2x3870 cards?Cause i already have a 3870 card, and i'm thinking of getting another one.Does it have any significant difference?

I have only noticed that its gdd3,has a lower engine clock, and doesnt need crossfire support.

So what d'ya say?

The 3870x2 and two 3870's in crossfire preform about the same.

However I don't believe having a 3870x2 added to your setup will be supported until late February/March as you need CrossfireX drivers to do 3+ GPUs. If you really want a step up to your current configuration I would go for another 3870 atm.

Well in almost all cases for high res gaming the x2 is a better setup then xfire 3870s. If you have a display that calls for the x2 then go for it. The driver is the suck atm from what I have read. Keep in mind you can at a later date install 2 of the x2s... 400$ish is a kick ass deal.

i wont have an x2 added to the normal one.I'm getting a nwe mobo, and i'm wondering if i should use the gpu from the previous computer+add a new one,or i f isoulhd leave the last computers card intact and get an x2 card.

But as I said the x2 is gddr3 and runs on lower memory clock.

What d'ya say about that?

The "3870 crossfire" used by THG is not a true 3870 crossfire since they used 1x3870 and 1x3850OC, which is, as they stated themself, about 6% slower AND has a lower bandwidth. I suspect that 2 x 3870 cards (clocked at x2 level) will be on par with the x2 or even beat it slightly. That's a guess though.

I have owned a crossfire 3870 system and now have a 3870X2, my 3D mark score with the twin 3870s was 13788 and with my 3870X2 it was 13647. Whilst its slightly lower with the X2 i havent yet updated to the latest CCC and drivers like i had with my twin 3870s, so im hoping for a small increase with them. Basically, sod all difference!

Performance between the two setups is quite close, but the X2 consistently manages to beat out the Crossfire solution. However, it looks like the original HD 3870 is going to take a bit of a price drop which is always a good thing.

So if you can get two HD 3870s for less than the X2, is that the route you should take? Yeah, probably; the performance difference between the two setups is minimal and if you’re able to get the CF solution cheaper than the X2 one it works out to be a better deal.

The other thing is that if you’re not running a PCI Express 2.0 motherboard you can’t unlock the full potential of the X2; initial results show some decent gains for the X2 when moving to a PCI-E 2.0 motherboard

I guess it really depends on what you have and want.

Wouldn't two 3870s in PCIe2.0 crossfire be much better then one 3870X2? Two 3870s would have 1GB DDR4 vs 1GB DDR3 and would be full PCIe2.0 vs PCIe1.1 on the X2. (the chip that links the two GPUs on the X2 is only PCIe1.1...)
