the New test version of VLC 0.82 at www.videolan.org is making me very
happy.

In the past, trying to use 169time avx-1 recordings with the VLC player
exhibited a grey bar about 8 rows wide at the bottom of recordings because
for some reason the stream would be 1920x1088 instead of 1920x1080.

The only way to get around it in the past VLC versions was to use the CROP
filter, but then you lost the deinterlace filter. So there was compromise
between seeing the distracting grey bar with deinterlaced video, or watching
interlaced video without the greay bar.

Now the newer version allows both CROP and DEINTERLACE filers simultaneousy!
Along with some other filters as well. Now I can watch deinterlaced video
without that greay bar by setting the CROP filter value to :

1920x1080+0+0

That means it will not display the last 8 rows of the 1088 transport stream
file.

If you're using a 1280x1024 lcd monitor you can use this value to get full
screen cropped HD video, but at the precise native pixel for pixel HD
resoultion without scaling :

1280x1024+320+28

If you have some HD files on your computer, the new VLC test version seems
to me the best way to play. It's DEINTERLACE "BLEND" method is I think the
best deinterlace method I've seen thus far on progressive computer monitors.
