I am looking for information about how to set up a wireless network adapter PCCard (Cardbus) of any brand --- mine is a Linksys Wireless-N Business Notebook Adapter WPC4400N, but the issue I describe below apparently applies to any brand, based on discussion with others --- that lets me search for and connect to and monitor a "hotspot" access point while in a Windows 2000 Restricted User (or a Limited User in XP) account. Now I can use this WPC4400N wireless card only while in my Administrator account, or in my RU account provided I've made the RU account a member of the Administrators group. Under those Administrator privileged situations, I can connect to any available access point with no problem.
I use Windows 2000 Sp4 Rollup1 v2, but Compuserve discussions
(http://community.compuserve.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ws-winprohelp&tid=192854 particularly messages 13-15, but also relevant are 1's P.S., and messages 2, 8, and 10-12) tell me that what I want to do is impossible, in XP as well as in Windows 2000.
But corporations do what I want to do --- have the Limited or Restricted User able to search for and set up and use and monitor wireless connections to hotspot access points --- even though those users do NOT have have access to the Administrator's account and do NOT have general Administrative privileges. So how do corporations do that, in either XP or Win2k?
