AV security removal help

I was recently infected with the fake antivirus AV security. I then downloaded the program spyware doctor by PC tools to remove it. However when I rebooted my PC after the install, I got a black screen where the windows logo appears. It seems I cant go into safe mode either. Is there a way I can remove it? All I have to work with is the recovery console from a windows xp CD

Use the XP disc to get into the repair console. At the command line type the following commands:
fixboot
fixmbr
bootcfg /rebuild

If that doesn't help, try doing a windows repair.
