Q6600 B3 revisions don't overclock as well as the G0. G0 generates less heat and uses less power.

Its actually not a bad price, regardless if its a B3 stepping. Show me a better price for 3 components (CPU/MB/4GB Ram), when you want to build a budget machine? You'd prolly loose money on that if you were selling a bare bone yourself, I think.

B3 stepping is an older make, or in other words when the first came out. GO stepping is newer. Only real difference is that the G0 will run a lil cooler. But between the 2 in performance or OC, is about the same. Just the B3 may run hotter, but not to the point of thermal shutdown.

True, but I think the B3 gets a bad rap...check my sig.

I have a friend that got one @ the same time as I believe his is OCed to 3.2 with a high FSB

I have a 680i board and he has an Asus X38

Heh... its actually not a bad buy at all:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor HH80562PH0568M

That is linked to the one off the combo.

Now click on spec for the CPU, and try to look for the stepping. :D

Bah.. I'll show ya:

Architecture: 65 nm

Wattage: 105W

Core Stepping: G0

Edit:
Errr Wait a min... it says Wattage 105W, isn't the G0 lower... 95W???

. o O (bastards!!)

Oh I wasn't saying the B3 is a poor overclocker by any means, just that it's not quite as good at it as the G0 stepping ones. I've only overclocked my G0 to 3.0ghz so I'm sure a B3 would have been fine for me.

Yes G0 is a 95w TDP part not 105w. They either have the TDP mixed up or the stepping. Knowing that I don't prefer Tiger I would say its a B3.

Is this a good deal or is the Q6600 antiquated already?
I know theres DDR3 out there and new CPUs coming out.

So..take a look at the ad....is it something I want or will it be obsolete in 4 months?

Currently using
FX-60(currently OC'd to 3% over stock)
2gigs XMS DDR-400 ram
8800GT w/ 512 megs

So if I bought the items in that ad, would it be worth it or save and dont get a 65nm die and go for the newer ones?

thanks

i think the combo deal was a great offer. you arnt spending the money for the 780i and almost getting the same fetures.

The cpu is awsome, i think we can all just leave it at that??

I have never used this ram. nor have i tryed to look for feed backs about it. so i will keep my opinion about this to myself.
