It's too bad that so many people have had problems OC'ing the Phenom 9850 to 3GHz - and using such expensive motherboards.

I have an Asus M2A-VM and I stuck a Phenom 9850 in it. Although the Phenom's capabilities will be limited (due to the HT and memory clocks) it works like a charm.

I raised the vcore to 1.35 and it up to 3GHz with no issues. Prime 95 ran for 2 hours and the max temps I recorded were 55C. PC Mark 05 ran the full suite of benchmarks and no issues either.

Hooray for the budget board and the AMD 690G!

Yah i have been cutting down the cpus i want to buy and want to get this one its pretty high on my list. So i want to know if this is the best way to stable OC it to 3.0ghz i am thinking of getting a BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX for the mobo.

And just a side note i want to know if i need a use ddr2 1066 on it because its a lot cheaper for me to get 800 and not 1066

definetely get the 1066 even if its a twin 1gig pack and i recommend dominator by corsair simply for the fact i run it on vista64 ultimate and is quite satisfactory on a 9600be stock

Best I have done is 2.9 Ghz, with 1.350v.

Does the 1066 ram help get you higher? If so, I will invest in better ram, or OC my current DDR2-800.
