Upgraded from xp to vista on my toshiba satellite and lost my wireless

Can anyone assist me...

I recently upgraded my Toshiba Satellite laptop from XP Professional OS to Vista Home Premium OS and now my laptop has lost its ability to sense the wireless networks. My device manger is indicating that the NIC card and drivers appears to be operational but still it won't work. What could be my problem? I am presently downloading several windows updates because this laptop had been sitting for a while... Can anyone assist me with this issue!
