AMD has taken back the crown for the most powerful graphics card. Read on to see how the company did it and how the HD 3879 X2 performs on a variety of benchmarks.

Interesting. They've left the room in the memory to allow partners to differentiate themselves no doubt. Given Crossfire scales better than SLI you can see how they managed to beat the 8800U but it would be fairly easy to put two 8800GTs on a board and get the lead back.

Awesome price though. :)  Good for AMD - at least they're trying and I feel a little better about my Crossfire choices.

Tom something is wrong with your hardware,

cons
Small difference compared to a 8800 Ultra
(yeah its better and it costs $300 less and this is bad)

Agreed. Now lets see the nVidia dual GPUs!

Can you put 2 of these HD 3870 X2 in a cross fire config? Would it be twice as fast?

Yeah, by March when the drivers comes out. It won't be 2 times as fast, but more like 1.8x as fast.

I would really be careful saying anything about it being faster... it would depend on the game and the driver release it could have ZERO increase in some cases.

This is true, some games wont see alot of benefits, but if youre futureproofing or forward looking, all new games SHOULD be capable of this, as this is the next direction, having 2+ GP's
