GA-P35C-DS3L Won't boot XP disk

Just build a new system, first one in a long time. And I've got the hardware all up and running however I can't get my xp disk to boot. If I run the disk that came with the motherboard it will boot up fine and if I try running the Ultimate boot disk that will start up fine. The XP disk is good and works on other machines.

Here is the setup:


GA-P35C-DS3L
Q6600
Kingston HyperX memory - 2 GB ( 2 x 1 GB )
Seagate 250GB SATA
IDE CD/DVD
EVGA 8800GT

The XP CD is probably a non bootable CD.

Define "The XP disk is good and works on other machines."

Sorry- It is a bootable xp disk. I've tried starting it up on other machines and it works great.

shudon if you got it to work on another pc maybe you can take cd player from that pc and see if it works in the setup below and try that.

Ironically it IS the cd player from my old system in which that CD did work.

shudon sounds like cd player or ide cable. either way sense every thing else is new build an cd dvd player is from old pc.new cd dvd burners are about $30.00 and that is for a good one. may ty that.lol

Interesting. Very weird problem. I have never seen this happen. If you could boot Vista you should be able to boot XP. One more thing is AHCI enabled or disabled?

Replacing the cd drive with a sata drive worked. Xp is loaded and running. The only problem is there is a long blank screen after the post and before the xp splash screen comes up. Last probably 20seconds or so.

well I have the same motherboard with an E6750 the exact same thing happend to me, had to update the bios. This might be your problem - check was revision you have and then go on their website and see if there is a newer bios that is required...obviously it can be risky so only do it if it's necessary.
