Problems with reinstalling windows xp

My daughter reinstalled XP with one of my Window CDs since she did nothave one and she was having all kinds of problems. Well installation is finished and now she cannot access her files, the icons are on the desktop and the data is there, just nothing happens when you click on the program icon. Also internet connection is lostand i can't get it restored. Any help out tere?
