I'm quite sure it should be faster, especially on newer games....... It's because the 5500FX shading capabilites are quite poor if I remember correctly. So let's just say if we're gonna compare 3DMark scores....
On 3DMark01 : The 5500FX might be faster. On 3DMark2003 or above though, the HD3200 should beat it by a wide margin. Not to mention Tomshardware's review mentioned the video card was quite overclockable, and overclocking it should reach about 3400 performance.
As for overclocking, if you're not gonna change the heatsink/fan. Somewhere close to 3Ghz is good.
HD3200 is alot faster than FX5500, it's about the same as a HD2400 pro. It wouldn't be surprising if it can do better than FX5900 in more recent game titles. Hitting 3000 in 3DMark05 is norm for this card, and 1500 is easily achievable, if you pair with a Phenom CPU.
OC 90nm parts on stock cooling should be able to get you around 2.8GHz+, 65nm should be able to easily go that high - assuming your mobo can handle the increased HT Link frequency.

Well, the point is that I have an old Athlon XP 1600+ system with an AGP FX5200 and I needed to know if this new motherboard would be just as good with a A64 3200+ I have laying around. Thanks!
Currently, I am still clutching onto my Athlon Xp 2500+, Soltek Mobo, 1gb Crucial Ram, and an XFX 6800xt (512mb - AGP) Video Card.
I'm looking at building a PC on a budget and was thinking of getting a 780G Board (Really only seeing the Gigabyte and Asus atm, so waiting and watching) with 2gb Ram (Crucial, Kingston, or G.Skill), and an Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane.
Will this show me better performance than my current rig?
I do plan on picking up a Video Card as more money comes in.
Also, will it make much different if I grab 2gb of PC2 8500 Ram over PC2 6400? Thought might be better to grab stronger ram for the inevitable CPU Upgrade later on.
