I am an Intel person. I would rather OC a e2160 to get 3ghz than pay for it. He really doesnt want Intel and he says he doesnt want to OC.

So now I am left with helping put together a machine. On the list down below, he isnt willing to change the case or get anything less than a 8800GT 512mb vid card.

This will be a gaming/home machine. This is a list I put together. He wants cheaper. I know I can save about $60 on the HD and maybe $20 with a boxed amd x2 6000 cpu that comes with a stock fan as opposed to the Freezer Pro..

Any suggestions?

Go for the 6000+ instead of 6400+ and you can drop down to a 320GB drive, that should save some money with the least amount of performance degrading to the system.

get some different ram, 53 dollars for 2 gigs is about 20 dollars to much imo and corsair aint the best anymore, look at cruical for 2 gigs

I agree.

Tell him to come here and he can decide what he wants with the help folks here.
If you want to help assemble do so.

However, if the stuff does not work as well as he expects or breaks, you will get the blame.
Even good parts don't always work.

ha-ha, I can tell you read the boards here.. You defended yourself for posting a build with AMD!

Tell him to not skimp on computer parts, puts too much pressure on you to bring down prices, then you have to ask people on tomshardware forums for suggestions.... :)

Already looks really cheap, what does he want? A Miracle?

Unless that CPU is OEM, you don't really need a third party cooler. Especially since he doesn't want to OC at all. Granted it's only $20 but still, it's $20 he can save.

Since he wants that particular case, the only other part that you can easily cut down on is the HDD. Assuming he doesn't have a huge library of music/movies etc. you can get a 250GB for about $70.

@OP: Smiler to a friend that I have who is still stuck in AMD fanboism (he quotes 2005-2006 benches  ). I built a E2180 based PC with a 8800GT (he has the same card) and it pwns his X2 6000 on pretty much all the benchmarks.
