INTEL® X48+ICH9R, I thought it will be like ICH10R? I should have waited for it instead of buying a X38 dfi ... But anyway, the bernstien audio is sound so amazing... no need for aftermarket sound card....
x38 or x48 there the same. Ive read you can get a little higher fsb thats about it, and maybe a little better overclock cant see that being worth the extra money. I should have just got the x38 would have saved a little money and would not have been that much of a differance
If you don't have a mainboard with X38 chipset, it would be worthy for you to buy a Mainboard with X48 chipset. Otherwise wait for some more months to see if the Mainboard manufacturers can provide mainboard with X48 and ICH10R.
What is the BIGGEST ram stick and Fastest ddr2 module pair I can order that will work great with it??
Anyone know?
DFI board suggested OCZ 9200, but the DFI spec and mem list doesnt show any 2024 modules...
Can I put some 2x2gb (for XP) into this bad boy, if so what RAM do you guys recommend for it?
You could put 2x2GB in XP, as long as you are using the 64bit version. There's no point in the 32bit version as it can only recognise 4GB in total.
"You wouldn't get reduced performance by having 4GBs of ram installed, but you'll be spending money on something you can't use. This is the difference between physical memory and memory address space. Remember, a 32bit CPU and OS can only handle 4GBs of memory. This means if the OS wants to write something to the videocards memory, its needs the video cards memory in its address space. So if your x1950XT has 512MB of ram, the most you'll see in windows is 3.5GBs. (if you have CF/SLI, knock that down to 3GBs. Toss in hardware RAID controllers, and other devices with its own memory, you could see only 2.5GB - 3GBs. of ram." Not sure where i got that but it makes for good reading....
by the way... the board only supports upto DDR2 6400 (800mhz) so don't waste your money on the 9200 or even the 8500. Just get a pair (or 2 pairs) of corsair 6400 XMS2.... they'll do the job.

Very much agreed. X48 = X38 v2.0 Intel is playing NV's game. Oopps I said it.
Socket 775 is coming to an end anyhow with Nehelam around the corner...either chipset is probably the best you will get out of Intel. X48 may allow you to OC a hair past X38 but a very small % of people are going to push their system that far to where they need the X48. X38 is a solid chipset. Well, both are...but...I am not going to worry about my X38 board.

New PSU will replace nearly brand new Kingwin Mach1 850watt that seems very unstable (with ASUS p5e and intel 945gcz boards tested on). My ati 1900gt is amazing - it gets 40fps @ 1900 x1200 currently on a Pentium D 820, Intel 945gcz - so I probably will just get another one and crossfire it in lieu of buying new 2xhd3870's.
