Specs
##############################
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5N-E SLI 1.XX
Hitachi HDP725050GLA360 (500gb, SATA2)
Akasa Integral enclosure with USB2.0 and ESATA
Vista Home premium 32bit
##############################

Problem
##############################
My problem is that the HDD and enclosure are visible in my computers bios, but are not being detected by vista.
USB2.0 works fine and instantly.
ESATA does not.
Another point is that Vista won't boot, meaning that I have to turn off the enclosure to complete booting.
##############################

Action already taken
##############################
Updated BIOS, resulting in a change of specification from, just a drive to a RAID-0 device.
As a result of this another update applied concerning RAID control.
Rebooted several times (I always listen to IT crowd).
Attempted to turn HDD on from before boot but stumped by the vista reaction.
Reverted to a lower BIOS to check if it is a stability issue.
##############################

Possible researched theory

Read above link saying that a SATA1 jumper is required, but I am unsure of this as, on the enclosure it says that is supports SATA2.
##############################

Personal note:#

Me and my brother have tinkered with this for about 2 hours, resulting in my brother (an IT tech) becoming frustrated at the damn thing not working. I have consulted both my brothers, who have no further input, as their knowledge of ESATA is severely limited as a result of never using it prior to this drive.

Much appreciated!

Matthew

Solution
looking at your motherboard manual you have a Jmicron controller JMB360 for only the eSATA port. This will need to be enabled in the BIOS. once this is done you should get some drivers from the jmicron website.
http://www.jmicron.com/Driver.htm
id say youll want this one
JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.46WHQL_eSATA.zip
Its not the latest but with WHQL and its eSATA without the cache disabled. This should allow you to use the drive as hotswap
as its lists here:

I updated the Jmicron controller, i believe the problem to be with vista. But i will do as you advise, as I have little knowledge of this.

Thank you for the speedy reply :)

Names chookman btw lol

Glad you got this sorted, but sound strange considering the jmicron controller should support SATAII and without SATAII i dont think youll be able to use hotswap but i could be wrong.

No, i can't hot swap.
It was strange, but my drive was too big too and too slow to use SATA2 anyway, I'll probably leave it for now, but if i want the additional speed, i am sure i can teak it. I'm just glad i wont be need USB2.0 :)
Sorry for the wrong name, i was reading your motto or whatever :)
