I am going to look for a new HDTV today. I was wondering if any one here has
haggled for a price at say Ciruit City or Best Buy. Are their prices set in
stone? Thanks.

Circuit City will match other prices but you need to have some
documentation. Last time they matched an internet price but I had to work
pretty hard

Be careful what you are buying. If it is a floor model I would walk. They
normally have the adjustments turned up so high due to the bright lighting
in the store that it subtracts life on the tube/screen.

Good luck and post what happened.

Best buy will match prices at other stores. You might check out Costco or
Sams Club too. In particular costco is selling a Pioneer plasma 4350??? that
should be close to apples and apples to a Pioneer at Best Buy (see the web
site costco.com which also has $500 rebate going on). The 43" pioneers at
best buy were going for around $5k and the costco pioneer with rebate is
just over $3k. With shipping the costco pioneer is probably around $3500. If
you could get Best Buy to match the Costco price..........

From what I have read, Pioneer and Panasonic get the best reviews. Cnet.com
has some reviews.

Sears will match any other store's price and knock a further 10% of the
difference off. The store where we bought our Sony did not even require
documentation -- I just told them what I was quoted by another dealer and
they matched the price, plus that 10% of the difference. Later, when they
were 4 days late delivering, they knocked another 10% off the total price.

One caveat about Sears, they seem to have higher cost for their ESP's.

Well if you are going for the cheapest, I saw the cheapest HD televison set
I have seen so far this weekend. A 27" Insignia CRT HD set for $399 at
Sears. They are starting to get just as cheap as SD television sets.

I just went to the Best Buy website and they have a 27" Advent CRT HD ready
set for $329. If you hang on for a few months HD sets will probably be
going for $199.

Best deal I have seen to date is at radioshack.com. 37 inch Olevia for
$1500.

Not really, as I'm very, very pleased with it. It's a Sanyo, model
HT32744. Built in ATSC tuner, 2 component, 1 HDMI input. It also has
a digital audio output, but I'm not using it. Don't see any reason to
replace my 12 year old prologic receiver. It still plays louder than
I'll ever listen to it. I was also pleased that Wal-Mart employees
rolled it out to the parking lot on a sled and put it in the bed of the
truck for me. That's more than I thought they would do. Not bad for
$647.

I've also been impressed with how easy the menus are to use, and I also
like some of the "display" function info. Maybe it's a standard thing
with HD sets, but it shows me which channel I'm on, the program title,
signal strength, and what resolution it's displaying (480i, 480p,
1080i, ect) which takes away any doubt as to what I'm getting.

Other models in this family are the HT27744, a 27in 4:3, and the
HT30744, a 30in 16:9. I think Walmart carries them both.
