For now, I would like to take my 30 Gb (XP Pro) and 160 Gb Maxtor IDE HDDs and put them into the new system. Thought I would install one or two new SATA HDDs when I determine what version of Vista to go with. All my builds over the last few years have really only been component upgrades at different times. I would appreciate any and all input. Thanks in advance.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400/E8500 (whichever I can find)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Antec P182 - ATX - Black
Corsair TX750w
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2 x 1Gb - DDR2 1066 - CL5-5-5-15
Gigabyte Geforce 8800 GTS - 512 mb
Pioneer DVR 212 - Black
Thermalright Ultra 120 w/Noctua 120mm 1100-1300 rpm

Never tried overclocking really - but it sure looks like fun!

1) If you run the IDE’s as slaves you shouldn’t have any problem mixing them with SATA drives, I did this yesterday @ work in fact, no issues.

2) Vista – you’ll want home Premium or Ultimate. (32bit or 64, you decide.)

3) Seeing as this is for March or later.. you may want to see what the 9800 vid card series is like before committing to 8800gts

looks good overall but I agree with grieve about the video card. You should probably go with a 64bit version of Vista so you can easily upgrade to 4gb of memory in the future if you so wish.

Maybe I should just double this RAM when I order. Will it be harmed running 4 mb under XP Pro or just not recognized? Thanks for the input.

I was making the PSU suggestion with what the OP has listed, there's nothing wrong with the first choice. I guess I'm more of a 'bang for the buck' guy than I am 'more is better'.

I was sure I had done it before with some version of Windows. If I configure it as my boot drive as it is now with XP Pro, will it not boot at all? May just have to bite the bullet and decide on a Vista version. Thanks.
