Hi. We are looking for a small portable NAS type device, or usb attached storage, with at least 2+TB Usable. We had tried a buffalo iSCSI device, but the transfer rates were just terrible.
This is going to be for a DR type scenario, and it will need to be something relatively small, so it can be portable, with 4 or so drives.
I am wondering if anyone out here has any thoughts on devices to look at.
Anything USB or firewire will be slow compared to internal drives.
From what ive seen NAS's are better but could be a pain if your going to move it around. NAS's also never seem to be as quick as another machine on the same network, this should be to do with the quality of components used inside (so more expensive should theoretically mean more speed)
eSATA i believe is the way to go because its as fast as an internal drive but with the advantage of being external. The disadvantage is having the port on the machine your connecting it to, and then to have it to work the way you want it to. So eSATA would be my suggestion to look into
