What means of CPU support Dual Channel DDR3-1066/1333

hi all,
CPU 2600k support Dual Channel DDR3-1066/1333
is that mean that if i put RAM with bus 1866 it'll be just 1333 not 1866?

Also for CPU 3770K support Dual-channel DDR3 Memory Controller supports DDR3-1333 and DDR3-1600 memor
it'll work to just 1600?

Dual channel means it will operate two sticks of ram as one large stick, kind of like typing with two hands instead of one - its giving you a performance boost.

The memory speed is a different matter. It represents how fast the cpu talks to the memory and supported speeds are its "stock" speed. 1866 is considered overclocked and often requires you to enter the bios and select it manually.

so i have to overclock the cpu to reach to 1866 bus?
if i install 1866 without oc it'll work with it's max cpu 1600 or won't work?

No, you don't have to overclock your CPU to run 1866MHz memory.
The2600k/3770k would supports ram upto 2133MHz maybe even 2600MHz!.
So, if you'd install a 1866MHz memory, It'll be listed as 1333mhz. You'd have to go into your bios & set/Overclock your memory speed to 1866MHz.
 


The 2600k and 3770k both support memory IO bus speeds of 667Mhz (1333 MT/s) and 800Mhz (1600 MT/s) respectively. While memory speeds higher than this are certainly possible and are easily attained on most chips they do require that the memory controller be overclocked and are thus neither supported nor guaranteed.

So yes, a part of the CPU does need to be overclocked. It's just the memory controller and not the IA32 cores.
