My xp is not shut down

Hello,
i have a problem in my pc(xp) it not shut down while when i click the shut down button.why?? what is the problem....

It COULD be the PSU is an old model and requires a manual shutdown, or it could be that one or more of your programs is operating in the background and won't shut down when windows tries to shutdown.

I had this problem too.

Just like "treefrog07" said in his reply, you have to manually shut down your PC. There is a switch at the back of your hard drive which you turn off. When you turn it on again, you'll be re-booting the PC. If the problem occurs again, run a scan-disk error check.
