Thanks for you help.. sorry it took so long to respond. Holidays were crazy busy. the model of the card is Atheros AR5BXB63-H. I tried downloading the drivers but none seem to work. This is the card that came with the orginal motherboard. the hp relacement number is 459339-001 (not sure if this helps). I also tried an Atheros AR5BXB6 card and I still keep getting the same error. I even tried an intel pro WM3945ABg but it did not recognize the card at all. On HP website they have drivers for an intel pro wireless adapter and broadcom wireless lan drivers.. Could this card not be compatible with my new motherboard?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..
