I'm running MacOS X.3.3 on one of the original G4 iMacs and considering
getting a PDA running PalmOS, but which make?
I know PalmOne supports the Mac, but what about Sony. Mac users are
using Sony Palmtops, but Sony don't mention Mac support. How straight
forward is getting these, Palm, Sony or any other, machines to work
with the Mac?

You should be able to use any PalmOS based PDA.
At my house the following PalmOS PDAs have been used:
Palm M100 (retired)
Handspring Visor Edge (retired)
Sony CLIE SJ20 (my mother-in-law's current)
Sony CLIE SJ22 (my wife's currnet)
Sony CLIE TH55 (my current)
The TH55 requires MissingSync from Mark/Space, Inc in order to sync. It
is a Great bit of software. If the CLIE has a "Data Export" app, you
can mount your CLIE's external Memory Stick as a USB drive and just drag
and drop files.
And _NOW_ I'm told that I could have sync'ed without MissingSync for the
SJ20, but I didn't know that, so I originally got MissingSync for it.
Just factor the price of MissingSync into the price of your PDA if you
go with a CLIE.
Also if you want lots of information about CLIE's, go to
http://cliesource.com and search the forum archives. They also have
specific forums for specific model lines, so you can ask questions of
users of the model you are interested in.
There is a specific CLIE-Mac forum that should have most of your
Mac/CLIE interaction questions already answered.
I'm told that if you get a bluetooth model and you have bluetooth on
your Mac you can wirelessly hotsync. I do not know because I do not
have bluetooth.
I do know that I can _NOT_ wirelessly hotsync with WiFi on my TH55.
Mark/Space has said that a future version of MissingSync will include
this, but it is unclear if that will be for future Palm OS6 models, or
if it will also support previous releases of the Palm OS. But wireless
hotsync'ing would just be a nice bonus, as it is not too difficult for
me to plug in the USB cable and sync.

Not for long... we have native USB support for OSX in pilot-link =)
Once we work out the kinks, you can use Evolution, J-Pilot, KPilot,
or dozens of other solutions to sync on your OSX machine, without the
added cost of the proprietary/commercial syncronization products.

While we made that announcement in conjunction with all the news in Feb
about Palm OS 6, we will be supporting devices with OS 4.x, 5.x or 6.x
for USB, BlueTooth or WiFi across all features (hotsync, desktop
mounting, internet sharing).
