Forgive my rookie question

So i am in the process of building a new computer. I have the case, motherboard, ram, processor, power supply, drives, i am still waiting to receive my windows 7 disc and upgraded video card. I planned to put my hard drive from my compaq that i currently use in as a storage device. my question is, can i Install this hard drive with vista on it already into the new computer and be able to boot it up so i can start tweeking with overclocking. Or will windows see all this new hardware and say WTF, this isnt' the computer that is licensed?
