Crossposted... sorry about that.
I think I might have a little problem. I was using Card Export to browse
around my SD card and then decided there was a lot of junk on it. So I took
my plam and formated the card. Only it comes up half way through and says
"Unknown format" and then "format failed"... now it doesnt even want to
mount the card in Palm OS and I cant get the Palm to format it.

What happens if you format the card using a card reader on a PC?

Oops; one final question: What brand of SD card are you using?
This should have been the most important question, as I recently had a
friend with a SanDisc SD card in his Panasonic DMC-FZ10K lose the card
in a situation similar to this.

Ok... I dont have a card reader but I'm thinking I'll pick one up this
weekend and try it before I try to argue with Wal-Mart/Sandisk for a return.
Card Export is version 2.0
Palm OS is 5.x (whatever is on a Zire71)
I'm running Windows XP
The card is yes indeed a Sandisk... I would have bought different had I know
then what I know now, but that was 6 months ago and for some reason I didnt
read all the Sandisk SD card horror stories.

BTW, I don't use Card Export nearly as much as I thought I would, as
the pocket-sized JumpDrive Trio, available at Wal-Mart for $20, is
*much* faster than using Card Export. This combo gives me the ability
to dump camera or PDA data without having to break out any cables.
Granted, Card Export would be far more convienent and useful for small
quantities of data with respect to a machine with a hot sync cable, if
the PDA is your only need of SD cards.
I understand well your point regarding "not researching" something;
that's why I'm the not-so-proud owner of a Sony Net Minidisc owner.

Lol, Send me one of those SD cards! Jeeze..
I scraped together enough money for this 256 Sandisk, so I hope it's not
pooched. I phoned Sandisk and they're ready to have me mail it back for a
replacement if needed, but I'm going to check Wal-Mart this weekend, I
bought it over 3 months ago so I hope they'll take it back... without the
reciept (ugh) yeah, that was stupid. If returning it doesnt work I'll try
the card reader.
But if Wal-Mart doesnt take it back or replace it I'm worried about sending
it to Sandisk, I just hope they dont recover data and found I was playing
with Card Export and blame the failure on me!
But seriously... send me a SD card. I wish I could get my hands on a couple
cheap 16Mbs for a few Mp3s/Pictures.

I don't have an Obessive-compulsive disorder. You should see how many
CDRs I've burned. Maybe you shouldn't. :-D

Wow; my buddy's 256 SanDisc tanked within 2 weeks, and it wasn't an
issue of data recovery, as the card could not even be formatted. That
you've had yours for three months raises concerns for the Panasonic
cards I've got; I think my oldest one is about four months, but the
majority are less than two, if memory serves. The only ones that get
any real work-out are the 256mb ones, though.
Please keep me posted on your success at Wally world; I'm in a similar
boat with respect to receipts and what not.

I'm not thinking the problem is with Card Export, as I've written to
my Panasonics with it on numerous occasions, using different versions,
without any issues. Given the failure rate that SanDisc seems to have,
I'm imagining they don't put too much effort into recovery. I just
hope you didn't have any irreplacable data on that card.

I haven't looked lately; what are the 64mb & 128mb Panasonics going
for at Wally World these days? I never saw a 16mb on the shelf, and
they evidently just closed out their 32mb cards, which ticks me off as
I wish I had known about them sooner. A 64 and/or 128mb would be
decent to have for the sole purpose of remotely backing up the PDA.

Well I went to Wal-mart and managed to return the card. I had the package
which had the barcode so that saved me. I ended up getting a Lexmar SD card
as a replacement, no idea how good they are but if it dies I'll just take it
back again. But I ended up with the card and 20 dollars store credit. So I
might go get a card reader just for ease of use in a week or 2.
