I was just wondering when we can expect a new version (intel refers to this as stepping - C0, C1, C3 etc) of the E8400?

No words yet. Judging its launch time, it'll be another 2~3 months before the possible next iteration comes.

I have heard that the production stepping of Yorkfield will be C1.  My friend at Intel is waiting on E0 to appear to start validating with it but the rumor is that it won't be a production stepping but something later.
