I just saw that the new F8 bios is officially released on the Gigabyte website, just wondering if anyone has tried it yet, and whether it provides any stability improvement (especially with 4GB ram installed....). I wasn't too impressed with the F7, so I'm reluctant to try the F8 unless there's some positive feedback on it.
cheers

i have instaled f8 now. nothing to wright home about. they fixed my main problem of not being able to use all 4 dims for 4 gig while at 1066 with the f7. although i was never able to enable cia cia2 or i crashed during boot still the same . for me i see no diference at the moment, would be interested to hear if it helps any one else out. f7 and by assosiation f8 are much better than any of the f6 and below for using 4 dims at 1066 2.2 volt volt.

I have installed F8. Hmm, I think there's sth wrong with the speed control of CPU fan. I mean fan that is attached to my cooler goes round with the highest speed. Mobo with F8 BIOS has no control over the speed of the CPU fan. I will return to the previous version of Gigabyte X38-DQ6 BIOS i.e. F6. :(

I installed the new Bios and didn't have any luck running with 4 sticks of RAM. I reduced the bus speed as previously and thought I would continue as before. I rebooted a couple of times and the PC seemed to run ok. Then last night (i.e. the day after the bios upgrade) I turned the PC on and nothing happened. I tried again and it came up with a message about auto recovering the bios. On re-boot I set the bus to 800Mhz. From that point on it resets 2 seconds after turning on the machine. I don't even get as far as seeing anything on the monitor. Any ideas on how I can fix this would be appreciated. I've tried resetting the CMOS by removing the battery, but it did nothing. I've tried removing some of the memory (as was needed to get me to the bios when I first installed the M-board) and still get the same result.

Rootkits coming to your motherboard

Published on January 27, 2006

The recent media attention on rootkits has been focused on installed software, but according to some security professionals at the Black Hat Federal security conference, these kits could be installed on your motheboard's BIOS chip in the near future. Often running a programming language of their own, these chips store the basic command and control functions of the computer. In an article written by Robert Lemos of SecurityFocus, security researchers say that rootkits could take advantage of this language and are the "next logical step". Read more
