Overclocking Q6600, Q9450, E84/8500 question.

I am building a new machine and I plan on using a Radeon 4870 X2 with an Asus Rampage board. I was wondering though, to avoid bottlenecking, which of the 4 above labeled processors would make sense for this rig. I have seen much debate over the Q6600 and Q9450, and have heard that the Q9450 isn't terribly great for OCing and that the Q6600 can clock to around 3.2-3.4. Would that 3.2-3.4 be enough to get around bottlenecking? Also, with most quad cores, the heat generated is quite alot. So because this is primarily going to be a gaming rig with some ocasional video editing, would one of the two E series make sense because they can be OCed higher with less heat? Also I plan on using either a Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX or a Vigor Gaming Monsoon II Lite.

Thanks for any input and I apologize if these questions have been addressed elsewhere on the boards and I missed them.

Thanks again,

Ausmus

Right now it doesn't make much sense to purchase a quad core (except for future proofing which is fool hardy anyway). Get the E8400 wolfdale and overclock it to 3.6 or 4ghz.

Any of those processor clocked to 3ghz or higher will not bottleneck your card. You might see up to ten framerates more at peak, but the same minimium and close to the same average frame rate regardless with either processor.

I was actually just looking around and I did not realize that the Q6700 had a 10x multiplier. For the price, would that make sense? With the Rampage board I should be able to get excellent OCing out of the Q6700 I would think. Also I would think either of the two cooling systems I mentioned before should be able to cool the processor respectively well.

With the q6700 I think you can hit about 3.2ghz without a voltage bump. 3.6ghz easy on air. If they are priced the same right now then go for it.
