Hi :

Iam wondering about the perfomance of ATI 2900 GT. I couldn't find any reliable source of information.
Is it wothy to have one, especialy that I found it for 144 C$ ( Canadian Dollar) ?

Should I get it , or the new 3650 GDDR3 is better ( it is about 170 C$) ? any other sugestion ?

Just to let you know, Iam middle-gamer ( just few hours/week ), but I like to be able to play the latest games. My screen is 17" 1280*1024

Thanks in advance

The 2900 GT is about equivalent to the X1950 PRO.

[EDIT] But for $144 Canadian, that's pretty damn awesome. Where did you find it at that price?

The 3600 series isn't that good, It's essentially the same GPU as the 2600 series, and the 2600 XT runs the same clocks or a bit faster strangely enough.

is it allowed to post for differnet site ? If not , send me your e-mail, and i will keep u updated with the website

So, you think that 2 2900GT in crossfire will be almost equvilent to 8800GTX?

Yes, you can post links here.

two $144 2900 GTs are not worth the $289, because you could probably get a single 3870 for that price in Canada which would be faster than two 2900 GTs.

The only time the 2900GT is a good buy is if it's as expensive as the 2600XT,7900GS,1950Pro, and 8800GTS. It out performs all of those and for $115 it's a good deal compared to those cards. I really don't know much about Canada's prices, but the 2900Pro is an excellent deal here in the US if you are on a tight budget, it might be the same there. I bought mine for only $130 and it benches higher than the 2900XT and 3870 @ their stock clocks. Of course mine is heavily OC'd, but still a lot of performance for the price of a 8800GT.

8800 GTS will outperform the hell out of a 2900 GT. 8800 GTS 320 performs about as well as a Radeon 3850. The 8800 GTS 640 performs as well as a 3870, and the 8800 GTS 512MB performs on par with the 8800 GTX.

The rest you're right about, tho. Although the X1950 PRO performs right on par with the 2900 GT.

The 512bit 1gb 2900pro card was probably the best buy of the lot. Easily clockable up to 800/2k :D

Only the early 512bit ones though.

Oh, the 2900 pro is for 250C$. I wish i could find it in Canada for 130$ , I wouldn't hesitate to get one .
And I can't buy from newegg, they don't offer thier serves to Canada!
So, you guys think that HD 3850 512 is good enough for me ( I think that ) . But for little bet more 202$ i can get 8800GT 256 . So now Iam talking about 100 $ more than I can pay !

Yea, But I don't believe it is about the US D or CD. I believe it is about the Card feedback. I was reading the feedbacks about this card ( 8800 OC) and I found that most of the guys were complaining about drop in the frames when playing different games and from the some artifacts !
So, the truth is , I not sure if this card is the best !
what do you think

Well, it's probably a power hungry card so I wouldn't run it on a cheap-ass PSU.

But people will complain about pretty much every card out there. I don't trust 'user reviews' so much because a lot of people don't know what the hell they're doing.

I haven't heard anything particulalrly bad about the 2900 series as far as being unreliable. Having said that, there will be a bad cards in every batch. There is a bit of luck involved, just make sure the place you buy it from has a good return policy.

If the 2900GT is cheaper then anything better say the HD 3850 or above then i would say get it, the only problem is the 2900GT is comparable to a 8600GTS... so if find one of those cheaper get that and youd be better off then a cut-down 2900XT. (the GT only has 240 shader, not 320, and i believe only half the ROPS and TAU's)

You started off ok by calling it the GT, but then you switched and started talking about the pro. The 2900pro is basically a downclocked 2900XT. They are supposed to be the same, with the pro having slower clocks. (It now has a smaller memory bus) The 2900GT is NOT the same. They have "removed" some of the shaders, I think it has only 240 of them. The 2900pro out performs those cards you listed, the 2900GT is about equal.

Yeah I didn't mean the 8800GTS I meant the 8600GTS, sorry for the typo friend.

Yes, I know that the Pro is better, I'm just trying to tell him for $15 more dollars the Pro is a much better deal. Sorry for the confusion. The Pro definitely beats the hell out of the 2900GT and it can be OC'd to what a 2900XT can OC to.

The 256-bit Pro doesn't seem to be hindered by the smaller memory bus at all. I actually have the 2900 Pro and it basically acts as a power hungry 3850 512mb and it's very easy to get it to 800/2000. I actually have mine at 850/2000, but the fan is really loud but it's nice for the benchmarks. 11k 3Dmark06 scores with it.
