I have an external, USB connected 320GB HD that I use for backup using Norton's Ghost. I had a series of backups that I had done on the drive. I felt that I hadn't done one of the backups properly so I decided to start over by reformatting the drive. I've tried both a full backup and a quicky backup and both seem to work properly but at the very end I get a message "Windows was unable to complete the format". Before I did the format I could access the drive using Windows Eplorer and measure the files and write and erase. I can no longer do this and Ghost no longer recognizes the drive. Any suggestions? I'm using WinXP

you could try a complete wipe of the drive (write zero's) which i find is best done with Darik Boot n Nuke... however if it failing formatting you could well have a dead drive.
