hi all,

i have Samsung scx-4824fn.

my router is in my room. my desktop computer is in my living room and the printer is connected via usb(it have network adapter also)

for full capability(scanning, printing through my laptop and my roommate laptop) over network the printer have to configured as network printer.

so i wonder if i can assign an ip address to the usb connection or connect it through network adapter to the desktop pc network card that will be recognized from the printer installation setup on the notebook(in the setup i have the choose from 3 option: 1.local printer 2.network printer 3.manually)

i want to be able to choose option 2... i know that the "main pc" have to be on while i want to use the printer.
it is like the printer will be in a sub network(the main pc will assign ip for the printer)

That printer looks to have network capability built-in. Just hook it up to your router, then run the printer setup software on both computers. It should detect the printer (or give it the IP manually), and you're done. Select 2 (network printer) when running the setup. No need to share it out through one PC if the printer already has a network card.

that's i know, but recently the my infrastructure had change and the router is sitting in my room and the printer in the living room.
i will phrase my thread differently ...

i have in my home one desktop pc(the pc that the multi-fn printer connected to via usb) and two more notebook computer.
in the the printer have two setup files one related to the printer and one to the scanner.
so after setup to the "main-pc"(the desktop one) i set sharing for the printer and ran the printer setup file over my notebook.
the first stage of the installtion is to set which installtion to ran 1.local printer 2.network printer 3.custom.

for the printer i chose option 2 and entered the sharing path, it worked. for the scanner setup didn't. as i entered the sharing location i am getting error message that the device isn't found...

You won't be able to use the scanner that way, you can't scan to a shared scanner as a local device. To use the scanner on the device to scan to a computer, you need to use the printer's network connection directly to the network. Or use a 3rd party tool like http://www.masterslabs.com/en/blindscanner.html.

If you have a network connection to the PC the scanner is plugged into, why not run another network cable to that same area? Or is that on wireless?

It is wireless, but i thinking to use 2 routers. As the main(the one with the WAN) is d-link DIR-615 and i have 5-6 routers in my house that I don't use(level-one,edimax...)

I saw some instruction on DD-WRT and I thinking maybe the tutorial for 'Client-Bridged' setup maybe good for me... or use Windows 7 'Bridge Connections', but i don't know how to configure the connection(which to connect what).

If some one did it and can explain me, It'll be appreciated...
