i am costomizing a computer and the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 is the same price as the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600. I think that i should get the Duo because as i looked at the charts, it seemed to be better for certain things. I would be using it for gaming and just regular programing (i dont plan on editing videos). I think that i should get the Duo, but can someone tell me which one is overall better and the pros and cons of each?

If you want to save money in electricity go with the 65w 6850 especially if you leave the computer on alot. If you dont care then buy the q6600 at 95w, but the 45nm 65w quad cores are just around the corner so its up to you. But if your talking fast the q6600 is faster.

Do not buy the E6850, instead go with the new E8400. It has almost the same specs, but it is the new 45nm chip and has more cache. Because it is 45nm it stays cooler and is a better overclocker. Best of all, it is cheaper than the 6850. Now E8400 or Q6600 is a different argument, but i would still go for the E8400.

Seconded. E8400 over E6850. Should be faster and consumes less electricity.

Just out of general interest - what's the real consensus over wattage when you look at 65 vs 95?
